Thermafleece Cosywool Natural Insulation

  • Thermafleece CosyWool is a versatile insulation rich in sheep's wool and is an ideal choice if searching for all round performance and value for money.Thermafleece Cosywool
  • Research indicates that using 75% wool in combination with recycled fibres outperforms alternative products with a higher percentage of wool.
  • The wool rich blend ensures the maximum benefit of sheep's wool with enhanced performance, durability and sustainability.
  • An additional advantage of Thermafleece Cosywool is that it comes in a conveniently compressed
form with reduces transport costs and makes for quick and easy installation.
  • Once unpacked, it regains its thickness and thus provides excellent thermal and acoustic performance.
  • This is a long lasting product which is not only safe to handle but it also contributes to a healthier indoor environment by regulating moisture and absorbing harmful airborne substances in the home.

Indoor Air Quality

  • There has been an increased drive towards airtightness which has focused attention on the amount of fresh air entering buildings and the accumulation of air pollutants within them.
  • Indoor air pollutants including many volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) are widespread.
  • A survey by the Building Research Establishment identified more than 200 indoor pollutants at total concentrations 10 times higher than outdoors.
  • One of these pollutants, formaldehyde, is a common VOC that can be pervasive in buildings and is released from a variety of processed materials including pressed wood, medium density fibreboard and man-made fabrics.
  • Exposure to formaldehyde can produce sensory and respiratory effects at extremely low concentrations.
  • Air quality improvement measures including pollutant source reduction and employing ventilation measures are commonly understood. However, there is less awareness of the ability of materials, such as wool, to absorb harmful chemicals within the building envelope.
  • The exceptional ability of wool to permanently absorb formaldehyde and a variety of other harmful substances makes the use of Thermafleece an excellent addition to the range of indoor air quality improvement measures
  • Tests on Thermafleece exposed to a formaldehyde source showed a reduction in formaldehyde levels of more than 97% compared to the control.  Thermafleece can permanently absorb many persistent pollutants, including formaldehyde, the use of Thermafleece behind porous materials ensures pollutants diffusing through porous surfaces are unlikely to pass beyond the wool barrier created by Thermafleece

Performance Benefits

  • Unique Chemical Properties - Wool can Chemically fix harmful substances found in our indoor air including formaldehyde which is linked to many healthy effects.  This is due to the complex chemical structure of the keratin protein in wool
  • Higher Thermal Mass - Thermafleece can store more heat.  It requires about 2.5 to 3 times more energy to increase the temperature of Thermafleece by one degree Celsius compared to mineral fibre or polyester.  This can contribute towards heat stabilisation in a property.
  • Superior Dimensional Stability - Wool insulation will retain its structure and provide consistent performance and energy savings throughout its service which is in excess of 60 years
  • Reduced Energy Consumption in Service - Compared to an uninsulated loft, installing a 240mm thickness of Thermafleece in the loft will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from a typical household by as much a 1 tonne per year.  Upgrading existing insulation can reduce annual CO2 emissions by 250Kg
  • Acoustic Performance - Thermafleece acts as a very effective insulation absorbing material for use in voids and performs better than many synthetic alternatives
